Trip to Pittsburgh

This weekend, by boss Taylor, went to the beach down in Alabama, so I had the weekend off. So what I decided to do was take a little trip to...Pittsburgh! Crazy, i know. I had Friday off, so i left Detroit around 3 pm and got there around 8 pm that night. The first night, i met up with a friend of mine that I haven't seen in a long time that used to go to Auburn, who actually works for American Eagle corporate. She took me on a tour of her office on Saturday, which I decided was one of the most amazing offices i have ever been to. The work atmosphere is amazing, and the amenities within the building are pretty cool. Then we drove around Pittsburgh, and let me just say the road are crazy! The city is embedded into this valley with three different rivers running into the middle of the city. This makes for a crazy road system which goes up and down the side of the mountain walls. But other than that, I got to see Heinz Field (where the Steelers play), and PNC park (where the Pirates play) which both were really cool. We really didn't do all that much over the weekend, but overall it was a good weekend. I'm not sure I like Pitt all that much, although there were some cool places in the city, but overall not my favorite city. I left Sunday morning around 11 and got back to Detroit around 3:45 pm. I'm glad I went, but I am glad to be back in Detroit. I have the day off Monday, but i do have to start on a project for Taylor sometime tomorrow. So, i'll probably go into work for an hour or so to check e-mail and pick up a couple things, but other than that i have a day off! Well its almost time for bed..its been a long weekend. I'll try and post something later on this week!

Dunk Practice!

I dont have a lot to say really..but i thought I'd share this pretty cool picture of me dunking! We have dunk practice most every Wednesday from 4-7 pm. I am not technically part of the "Flight Crew" but I am the "Assistant Coach" or as Taylor likes to say the "Assistant to the Coach" haha. I do, however, get to practice dunking while i'm at practice which is pretty fun. Looking at how good the guys that are actually on the team, and then looking at me dunk..i'm no where near as good as them. And it seems like i come home on Wednesdays with some kind of body ache, and then the next day i'm really sore. Its all fun though. Anyways, enjoy the picture!

End of the first week!

So after a week of work, things are good! Every morning i go to work around 10 or 10:30, and i am supposed to get off work around 5, but most of the time i don't leave till later. The first night, I didn't leave till 8:30, and Tuesday I didn't leave till 10:30 because there was a Shock game that night. Wednesday is we had dunk practice from 3:30 till 5:30 on the court in the palace, which was a lot of fun. The dunk team is called the Flight Crew, and let me just tell you, they are really good. I thought I was going to be able to get the hang out it really easily, but it is a lot harder than it looks. Thursday morning, i woke up extremely sore...yeah that was fun. Then on Thursday, i went to an appearance for Zap (the Shock's mascot) at this indoor soccer arena with about 500 kids..that was pretty insane. Then on Friday, T Gris and I cleaned out the mascot cage at the Palace and re-organized it. So anyway, whenever i'm not out going to appearances or at dunk practice, i just sit at my desk and check e-mail and work on little projects that Taylor gives me to work on for each of the teams mascots. So anyway, here is a picture of my desk at work, and a picture from the first appearance i went to with Zap.

First day of work!

So i'm all moved in. My parents and I drove up on Thursday night to Knoxville, and then continued the drive on Friday and got to Detroit around 5 pm this past Friday. When we got to my apartment, we noticed that something was wrong...there was no furniture in it. So that put a little damper on things right off the bat. So we went back to the office and they ended up giving us a place to stay for the weekend, but still didn't solve the furniture problem. So after a crazy weekend of setting up my apartment without actually setting up much, i now have furniture. It arrived this morning at 7:15 am, which caught me by surprise. The movers had a key to my place and walked into my room to wake me up so that they could move the furniture in. So after they moved allmy furniture in (a couch, side table, dinner table, bed, and two dressers) i went back to sleep for a couple hours before I had to wake up to go to work. So my first day at the Palace (where the Pistons play) started at about 10:35 am EST this morning. Got a grand tour of the place, and was shown my desk that had a couple things on it, but no computer (IT is working on that). Went to lunch, and then came back and started brainstorming on a couple things for Hooper (the Piston's mascot) and then ended my day with a 2 hour meeting from 6-8 pm. Then after the meeting, went to dinner with a couple guys from work and found out that i have somewhat of a southern accent, and that when i try to say "you guys" instead of "y'all", i get made fun of haha. So all in all it was a fairly un-eventful day, beside the earl wake (as the Michigan-ers say), but a good day. Tomorrow i begin work at 10 am, but i also have my first Woman's Basketball game as an official employee/intern! Should be some food times ahead!

So, it is now less than 17 hours before I leave for Detroit, Michigan and my car has been totaled. So here's what happened: Tuesday, I went to Auburn to get my football tickets so that I could give them to my sister to sell to people so that I could make some money while i'm up in Detroit. So i go to get my tickets...no problem. Then i go to see a friend at their house..no problem. Now leaving to go back towards campus,i was sitting at a red light waiting for it to turn green. Both turn lights go and end, then its our turn to go straight. SO it turns green and i start to move forward..but little did I know, there was a car barreling 55 to 60 mph at me,and hit me in the middle of the intersection, hitting my front driverside tire and part of the door. This hit, knocked me out completely, and when I cam to,i was facing the opposite way that i had been going to begin with. My car was smoking and I could not open my driver side door. So i ended up crawling out the passenger side door to get out. So after all of this, all i come out with was a couple bruises, a sore shoulder, and a large headache. So all in all, I am fine..praise God! So now the problem is I have no car to take to Detroit tomorrow. So the verdict is that I am going to be taking my dad's car for four months and he will be getting a used car (at least, thats what the decision is now). So like i said at the beginning it is less than 17 hours till I leave for Detroit. We are leaving around 6pm and going to Knoxville,TN for the night, and making the rest of the drive up on Saturday. Just decided I should let y'all know what has been going on here in the past couple of days. I'll post again when I get to Detroit!

Getting Ready for Detroit!

So this is the last week that I'll be in Atlanta for a good 4 months. For those who don't know, I am moving to Detroit to work with the NBA team, the Detroit Pistons. I'm going to be working with their Game Operations Department as well as helping out with their mascot doing things like emceeing for appearances, helping coach the dunk team, and various other things that i'll be sure to update as i experience new things with this internship. So this week, i've started to pack up some things, but still have along way to go. You know, moving to a place for four months where i only know one person (my boss), mean's i've got to bring a lot of stuff. So there's a lot more packing to go for sure. But as of now, I'll be leaving either Thursday or Friday of this week, so i'm trying to just chill and hang out with people as much as possible before i head North. But thats about all i have for you now, i'll keep you all updated as much as I can, including pictures of places i've been and cool opertunites that y'all might be interested in. Next post will probably be friday when i get settled in Detroit! Post Options
